The alternative

The Wonderbly alternative, quieter.

A hardcover storybook bound once, for one named reader. A first edition of one. The literary press counterpart to mass-personalisation.

Wonderbly makes one kind of personalised book. We make a different one.

Wonderbly is the company that pioneered name-in-the-book personalisation at scale. They built a beautiful machine for templating a child's name into a pre-illustrated picture book, and they sold three million copies, and Penguin Random House bought them in 2022. We respect what they made. But the press you arrived at while searching for an alternative is doing a different thing entirely — not a templated paperback at scale, but a single hardcover bound once.

The arithmetic is the difference. Their warehouse holds thousands of copies of the same title with different names inside the front cover. Our press holds nothing. The book you commission doesn't exist anywhere until it's bound, and the file closes after it ships. There is no second copy, no library edition, no second printing in another colour. The unit of our business is the edition. One reader. One book. The press is then reset.

What changes when the press only makes one.

The story has the named reader's specifics in it, not in a template field but in the sentence-by-sentence rhythm of the book. The friend's name. The street they live on. The thing they say to the dog when they get home. Juno writes from those details. The book is illustrated for this one book. The cover is matte-printed. The book is sewn, not glued. It is with a colophon at the back.

The book is hardcover, in a plain box, and shipped in roughly two weeks. There is no digital edition. There is no app. There is no second household copy. Edition of one is not the marketing line — it is the production constraint. Once the book is in your hands, the file is closed. The press is reset. The book exists exactly once on Earth.

One book. Bound once. Never reprinted.

The price is the moat. We do not run sales. We do not run coupons. We do not run discount codes for newsletter sign-ups. The book costs the price of one book because making one hardcover for one reader is what the price of one book buys. If you wanted a coupon, Wonderbly's offers page is where it lives. If you wanted the book that exists once, the press is here.
