Your dog, as the hero of a bound storybook.
A hardcover storybook in which your dog is the named protagonist of a thirty-two-page adventure. Illustrated illustrated for this one book.
The story you have already been telling yourself about your dog.
You have a story about your dog. You have, in fact, several. There is the story of the morning she stood on the porch and decided that the day had personal business with her. There is the story of the friend at the end of the block, the squirrel, the moment she found the lost toy under the bed. You have been telling these stories at dinner for years. We bind them into a book.
The canvas in the hallway is a single still. The shirt in the drawer is a single image. The mug in the cupboard is a single line. The book is the connected version of all of it — the stories you have already been telling, set down by Juno in our register, matte-printed, on the shelf next to the books you grew up with.
What the press will make of your dog.
You tell us her name. You tell us her breed, four habits, the friend at the end of the block, the noise she makes at the kettle, the nickname only the household uses. Juno writes the adventure. She is illustrated honestly — the colour, the markings, the proportion. The book is hardcover, matte-printed on matte cover, with a colophon at the back, in a plain box.
She does not wear a cape on the cover. She does not wear armour. She is on the cover the way she walks into the kitchen — fully herself, fully named, matte-printed. The press's register treats her with the same care it treats the human protagonists of our other books.
Eighty-five dollars. One edition. Your dog, in print.
The book arrives in roughly two weeks in a plain box. You sit on the rug. She is, of course, on the rug too. You read the first sentence out loud. She listens for a moment and then investigates a corner. The book and the room agree about her, and that is the only review the book needs.
